Why Replace Missing Teeth?

Our mouth is a system of interconnected parts that all work together to keep you happy and healthy. When one of those parts is missing, the entire system is disrupted. A missing tooth leaves a gap in your mouth, allowing neighboring teeth to spread out, shifting the appearance of your smile and deteriorating your jawbone. Your bite, speech, hygiene, and eating choices are also all impacted by the absence of one or more of your teeth.

Replacing missing teeth is essential for preserving and safeguarding your bone structure, oral health, appearance, and overall well-being.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a titanium screw that is surgically placed into the jawbone and attached to an abutment (connector) to support a dental prosthesis, such as a crown, bridge, or denture. Implants act as a permanent base for either fixed or removable replacement teeth, helping to keep the jaw healthy and strong.

The Power of Dental Implants: Revolutionary Tooth Replacement

Dental implants are considered the ultimate standard of tooth replacement options because they are a long-lasting solution that highly resembles the look and function of natural teeth.

Natural Appearance

Dental implants are custom-made, shaped, and color-matched to mimic your natural teeth. You can feel fully confident that your implant will blend in flawlessly with the rest of your smile – no one will ever know you have an implant.

Stable

One of the biggest advantages of dental implants is their ability to integrate with the surrounding bone. This process, called osseointegration, is where the implant actually fuses with the jawbone, providing a solid foundation for the dental prosthesis.

Preserved Jaw Bone

Missing teeth can cause severe oral health problems, including gum disease, jawbone deterioration, and a compromised bite. Dental implants help preserve the strength and integrity of your jawbone by stimulating bone growth and providing support to the adjacent teeth.

Functional

Dental Implants provide unmatched functionality for chewing, biting, and speaking.

A New Era of Oral Health: Advanced Implant Techniques at Advanced Perio

By choosing Advanced Periodontics, you can feel at ease knowing your dental implant surgery is guided by advanced technology and our specialists use cutting-edge techniques. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy returning to your routine without prolonged recovery time.

Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, our doctors can place single-stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover but need some healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures.

Our office now offers dynamically guided surgery using the Navident 4. Navident Technology provides unmatched precision and accuracy in oral surgery, allowing our doctors to visualize, plan, and execute oral surgeries, which leads to less time in the chair and faster recovery.

What to Expect From Your Dental Implant Procedure

At our leading Seattle periodontal clinic, we don’t just focus on exceptional clinical outcomes but also provide compassionate care that puts your well-being first. Our team provides personalized care and support to make you feel valued, comfortable, and heard throughout the entire implant process.

1

Examination

In preparing for your dental implant, one of our specialists will review your medical history and conduct a thorough dental examination that usually entails 3D imaging. After obtaining all the necessary information, they will craft a personalized treatment plan tailored to your budget and dental needs.
2

Surgical Extraction

Surgical extraction is often necessary to remove an infected or broken tooth. Depending on your unique situation, we can place the implant at the same time of extraction. Otherwise, your periodontist must perform bone grafting or sinus augmentation before implant placement.
3

Bone Grafting

In the event that your tooth was removed many years ago and your jawbone is extremely thin, you may have an inadequate amount of bone for implant placement. In this case, a bone graft can be placed to thicken the bone. Depending on the amount of graft needed, between 4-6 months may be required before an implant can be placed. Bone grafting is also completed at the time of tooth extraction to provide enough bone for future implant placement.
4

Sinus Augmentation

Dental implants need 360 degrees of bone. When an upper back tooth is lost, the sinus moves into the jawbone, preventing implant placement. Sinus augmentation allows for implants to be placed in these areas. Bone is added beneath the sinus to ensure that implants have the bone support they need.
5

Dental Implant Surgery

In many cases, your doctor will insert your implant using our Navident 4 technology, which allows for pre-planning of the implant position, and robotic monitoring of the surgery to ensure precise implant positioning.
6

Recovery

Implants typically take 2-3 months for the bone to grow and adhere. During this time, our team will continue to follow up with you to monitor your healing progression to determine when your implant healed and is ready for the final restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

What can I use as teeth while my implants heal?

Options are available for those who need a replacement for teeth while implants heal. Temporary, removable teeth or a bridge can be made for those requiring a tooth replacement, while those missing all their teeth can have their present denture modified or receive a new temporary denture. Depending on the situation, some implants can be placed and loaded immediately, allowing for a temporary or permanent replacement tooth to be placed on the day of or shortly after the implant placement.

What are the potential complications of dental implants?

Although dental implantation is a minimally invasive, safe procedure, some potential complications could arise. After the procedure, patients may experience some pain and discomfort, but this is often manageable with prescribed pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infection. Other possible side effects include swelling in the face and gums, discomfort and pain at the surgical site, and minor bleeding. Though rare, some individuals may develop postoperative infections that require additional antibiotic treatment. During the placement process, adjacent teeth may be affected, and there is a slight chance that the nerve in the lower jaw providing sensation to the lower lip and chin may be irritated, leading to tingling, numbness, or temporary loss of sensation.

How long do dental implants last?

Implants typically will last decades, if not your entire life, with long-term studies indicating a 95% success rate for patients missing one or several teeth. Even if one of your implants doesn’t heal properly or loosens after a period, you can have the implant removed and, once it heals, replaced with a new one.

Do you offer a warranty for dental implants?

We stand behind our work. If you have an implant fail in the first five years after placement, we will replace it at no additional charge. That way, you don’t have to worry about financial ramifications if something goes wrong.

Will one doctor do the entire implant surgery?

Usually, a periodontist places the implant(s) and performs other necessary surgical procedures. At the same time, your general dentist provides temporary and permanent replacement teeth. Both doctors work in synergy when making your dental treatment plan and assisting you throughout implantation.

How do I clean my new teeth?

As with natural teeth, you must clean implant-supported restorations regularly with toothbrushes, floss, and other recommended aids. In the days following the implant surgery, be gentle around the implant site. Continue to visit your regular dentist yearly for hygiene and maintenance and monitor your implant for any damage, infection, chips, or loosening.

How much do dental implants cost?

Before treatment begins, every effort will be made to give you an accurate estimate of all the expenses involved in placing the implants and making your replacement teeth. There is often an initial charge for the diagnostic work-up, including study models, x-rays, and fabricating a surgical template to ensure the best possible result. You will be charged for the physical parts of the implant, such as the abutment or support post(s), plus the crown or dentures. If the cost of your treatment options needs to be clarified, please contact us. We will be happy to answer any questions.

This periodontal office is professional, kind, knowledgeable and honest. I’ve been helped by them over the last twenty years. I came in for another gum grafting consultation today and Dr. Richens said I didn’t need anything done. The staff was efficient and friendly, too. Highly recommend.

All the staff are very kind and accommodating - almost too much so, but I understand some people have extreme anxiety about dental work. They prepared me well for what to expect, the procedure was quick, successful and I felt well-cared for.

Completely PAINLESS! I am truly amazed at this clinic's ability to perform aggressive dental surgeries without there being any pain. Over the years I have had a root canal, an implant, and two major extractions in this clinic and every time is shockingly pain free. I cannot recommend this place enough.
