Microsurgery
Our office utilizes various microsurgical techniques to improve periodontal and dental implant therapy. Smaller incisions and less invasive surgical techniques lead to faster healing and improved results. Magnification obviously helps with surgical procedures, but it also helps us with our non-surgical therapy. We pride ourselves on trying to avoid surgery with advanced non-surgical periodontal therapy. Loupes, a surgical microscope and the use of the perioscope all help in the detection of below the gum line calculus (tartar). This helps us remove bacteria below the gums to stop gum disease without surgery.
There are very few periodontists in the nation who have had formal training in periodontal microsurgery. In 1995, Dr. Butler was one of the first trained in periodontal microsurgery. He trained with Dr. Dennis Shanelec at the Microsurgical Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. Even today very few dentists and periodontists use the level of magnification that all our doctors and hygienists utilize in our office.
