Facts and Questions about Periodontal and Implant Therapy
  1. Is treatment painful?
No, there is minor discomfort and with local anesthesia and sedation it is well controlled. Most patients go back to work and normal activities the day after surgical therapy.
  2. Is periodontal surgery necessary?
Many times it is not and we first try non-surgical therapy when it's possible. We keep aware of all new therapies and those that can avoid surgery, if it's a proven effective treatment.
  3. Is treatment covered by dental insurance?
Yes, it's usually partially covered. It depends on the comprehensive dental plan that you have. Some plans include implants and grafting and others do not. Our staff can help you answer these kinds of questions.
  4. Can I schedule an appointment without being referred by a general dentist?
Yes, we can evaluate your condition and if you do not have a dentist we can refer you to one.
  5. Why is it necessary to treat periodontal disease if I don't mind loosing my teeth?
It has now been shown that the same bacteria are associated with cardiovascular disease. Treating your periodontal disease can decrease these bacteria and may decrease the risk in developing cardiovascular disease.
